Brina Petrič: Haiku

Haiku by me

I’ll write a haiku,
the one that’s made just for you,
but stay here, with me.

Empty brain by me

My brain is empty,
inspiration is leaving,
and – what now, lovely?

A kiss
Once I just felt your
lips touch my red, red cheeks – that
I’ll never forget.

Heartache by me

When I’m without you,
my breaths stab my heart for fun.
And you have no clue.

Brina Petrič: When I cook

I was afraid of mom saying that,
so I just jumped off the couch, I said »What!?«
»Ok, I’ll repeat again,« mom said,
»prepare the lunch or I’ll be sad.«

So I had no choice, I just went there,
mumbling loudly: »Mom, that’s not fair…«
I started with mixing ketchup and butter,
until I heard my angry mother:

 “Hey, stop doing this!!!”
“Ok, then, I’ll mix apples and peas.”
“Ugh, just cook potatoes with carrots!”
“Alright, tomatoes and parrots.”

But the problem is we don’t have this stuff,
plus, smashed tomatoes won’t be enough,
and I ended up mixing ice cream and meat,
I will be so special, please don’t repeat!

So was sat and ate the thing,
It was worse than I could think.
Mom thought I just want attention,
that’s why I am in detention.

Brina Petrič: Spring song

Welcome to the blooming spring,
The season, when the flowers sing!
Say goodbye to ice and snow,
’cause today it’s a rainbow show.

Look to the sky,
It’s not gray anymore,
the birds fly,
just, who is it for?

Smell the roses’ nice smell,
oh, it’s a poppy over there, well,
just promise to forget me never,
I want to live with you forever!

Look to the river!
It’s no more frozen,
no virus of fever,
now, who is it for, eh?!

It’s for you, dear!
The one reading this.

Brina Petrič: A default poem about a default country

There was a town named Ljubljana,
the home of a default girl, Ana.
She lived in a skyscraper,
everyone was a fan of her.

But the problem is she’s stuck there,
’cause there’s a virus everywhere,
she was about to write a blog,
but she felt like she’s a frog.

Doctor went to visit her,
she asked him: »What should I do, sir?«
He said: »Your muscles are too weak,
you weren’t active for a week.

No need to take the medicine,
just go outside and feel the wind.«
So, she went for a long, long walk,
after that important talk.

In her country of Slovenia,
there are as many mountains as there is the sea,
sadly, Slovenes all had a lockdown,
in every village, every town.

When she came back,
she saw a pack,
and inside a pair of shoes,
she noticed that the handwriting was Sue’s.

From that day on,
she runs in sun,
her blog is blocked,
and everyone is shocked.

Now, she has a yoga channel,
she teaches viewers to lift a panel,
her life is sporty now,
and I don’t even know how.
